"You will be fishers of men."
A call to ordained ministry or religious life involves a significant amount of prayer, discernment and preparation. In the Episcopal Church and at Trinity Church, there are prescribed processes designed to assist an individual in discernment regarding a possible call and to make decisions regarding the encouragement of the call, aprroval for study and formation for ministry and ordination for ministry. Religious orders, congregations and societies also usually have discernment and commitment processes of their own.
In regard to ordained ministry, the process for formation for Diaconate is different from that of Priesthood, but the initial discernment and approval process is the same. Whether an individual believes that he or she may be called to the Permanent Diaconate (Permanent Deacon) or to the Priesthood, the process starts in the local parish, such as here at Trinity Church. If you believe that you may be called to ordained ministry, then you should first schedule a visit with the Rector of the Church. The Rector will discuss with you the process for discernment, formation, ordination and ministry, as well as particulars related to your personal situation and potential calling.
It is important that our Church continue to call and develop ordained ministers. All are urged to pray regularly for vocations to the ordained ministry. Everyone is also encouraged to pray especially for seminarians and for those in formation from Trinity Church.
