The Reverend Peter Wong

Rector

Father Peter grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, just a stone’s throw from New Orleans. A lifelong Episcopalian, he spent 14 years as a youth ministry professional before discerning a call to ordination as a priest. During his time as the Minister to Youth at Christ Church parish in
Pensacola, he met his wife Katie, a native of the Pensacola area and also a lifelong Episcopalian.
They were married in 2005 at St. Christopher’s in Pensacola while he was serving on the Bishop’s staff as the Youth Ministry Coordinator for the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. Both Peter and Katie are graduates of the University of West Florida: Peter with a B.S. in Business
Administration and Katie with a B.S. in Health Care Ethics. While at seminary at the University of the South, their son was born and their daughter followed a short 15 months later while they were adjusting to their new life serving as the curate at the Episcopal Church of the
Nativity in Dothan, AL.
Not long into his curacy in Dothan, the rector retired abruptly. After a search process, Father Peter was called to serve as their rector. He has served as the rector at Nativity for six years. During those six years, the congregation has experienced growth both in numbers and in depth of
knowledge and the love of Christ, expanding their ministries into new parts of the community while deepening their existing engagements.
He has completed his course of studies at Sewanee  for his Doctor of Ministry in Preaching and will finish his final thesis while here with us in Baton Rouge.
The focus of his ministry has always revolved around the ways in which the church serves one another and the world around them as members of the Incarnate Word. He is passionate about small group study, engaging the living Word of the scriptures and building relationships through which the people of God experience the love of Christ.
Peter and the family love to cook, love good food and good company, and love to entertain. They look forward to celebrating with the people of Trinity Parish both at the table where we meet the Christ in bread and wine and the tables where we will come to know the Christ more deeply in one another.
